Common Issues

1. Connection setup

1.1 Error "SqlState: 08006, VendorCode: 270001" from Snowflake driver

This issue can happen when the Snowflake connection details are not correctly specified.

  • Verify if DNS entry has been configured for service principal.
  • Verify if the calling application sits behind a forward proxy or equivalent, if so, ensure the forward proxy is able to resolve the URL to Datahive's PrivateLink
PythonOthers
configure proxy_host and proxy_port within the connection configuration. See Snowflake's Python driver available configuration for more infoconfigure settings USEPROXY, PROXYHOST and PROXYPORT in the connection string (PROXYHOST should only include the hostname, and not include http(s)://)
  • Ensure that the external facing IP address of the forward proxy (or equivalent) is provided to the Datahive team
  • Verify if your application is able to reach the public internet domains over port 80, if not, OCSP needs to be disabled. Follow guide to disable OCSP for the various drivers.

2. Snowflake SQL REST API

2.1. The language/framework I am using does not have a Snowflake supported driver, how can we connect to Datahive's Snowflake ?

Fret not! Snowflake has a language agnostic SQL REST API endpoint that you can connect to. Please refer to Snowflake's documentation for more details

2.2. Snowflake's SQL REST API query endpoint doesn't always returns result data

This is an intended and documented behaviour of the API:

If the statement takes longer than 45 seconds to execute or if you specified that the statement should be executed asynchronously, Snowflake returns the HTTP response code 202 with a QueryStatus object.

You can send a request to the endpoint specified by the statementStatusUrl field in the QueryStatus object to check the status of the execution of the statement. See Checking the status of the statement execution and retrieving the data.

If a consistent response type is preferred, the request can be configured to always execute in an asynchronous manner (documentation)

3. Others

For any other issues, please collect logs (see here on how to generate logs for your implementation) from your application and the Snowflake driver/connection setup, and inform the Datahive team for assistance
