Traffic Volume

The Traffic Volume (aka Traffic Flow) dataset contains hourly average traffic flow, taken from a representative month of every quarter during 0700-0900 hours. It is managed by LTA and is publicly available through DataMall. Historical data for traffic volume is not onboarded on Trusted Center for Sensor Data (TCS) yet.

The traffic volume dataset is updated quarterly (every 3 months) on LTA's DataMall and the latest traffic volume data will be available on TCS within 1 week after.

Fields​

This segment covers a short description and domain-specific information of each field.

The unique identifier for a road link.

Road Name​

Road name where road stretch/segment is located.

Example: KENT ROAD

Road Category​

The category of the road segment/stretch. This field classifies the type of road (e.g., Expressway, Major Arterials, etc.) and is defined as such:

  • CAT1 – Expressways
  • CAT2 – Major Arterials
  • CAT3 – Minor Arterials
  • CAT4 – Primary Accesses
  • CAT5 – Local Accesses
  • SLIP_ROAD - Slip Roads

Volume​

Traffic volume for road stretch/segment, measured in number of vehicle per hour.

Date when traffic volme was recorded.

Hour of date when traffic volume was recorded. (UTC+8, only 7-8am & 8-9am)

FAQ​

Does the dataset include private roads?​

  • No, the dataset only contains information about public roads.

How are the traffic volumes determined?​

  • The traffic volumes represent the hourly average for 7-8am & 8-9am during a representative month from each quarter, in number of vehicles per hour.

What is the significance of Longitude Start, Latitude Start, Longitude End, and Latitude End?​

  • These fields mark the start and end points of each road link (i.e. stretch of road).

Any differences from DataMall's API?​

  • All values are identical to those retrieved from the Traffic Flow dataset from the DataMall API, except Latitude and Longitude values are not padded with trailing zeroes (eg. 103.85 is shown instead of 103.85000000000000. Also, for Latitude values outside the range of -90 to 90, and Longitude values outside the range of -180 to 180, they will be cast to 0.
